Star Wars v. Star Trek: I haven't seen any of the older Star Trek films or series, but I did see the newer movie that came out a couple years ago. It was okay, but I still prefer Star Wars. Of course, I've seen all the Star Wars films and none of the Star Trek films, so there is some bias. If I have the time and opportunity, I'd like to watch enough Star Trek to develop an informed opinion.
LoTR v. Harry Potter: Personally, I love the Lord of the Rings films, but they haven't had anything recent for obvious reasons while Harry Potter has the technological advantage in the last few movies. Also, I didn't like the ending to Lord of the Rings, because the protagonist gave in to the ring for a moment when he was supposed to be morally immune in a sense to it. It was a disappointment to me that he finally caved to the ring's power, losing to it although ultimately getting rid of it. Harry had a vwery brief struggle with his possible greater place in Slytherin at the beginning, but he was far from an antihero and did a good job of staying on the path of righteousness.
