Lord of Harry Potter

When one mentions fantasy as a genre, several series come to mind. Two of the the most popular are Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Both have their own idiosyncracies and both have their own failures. But after years of consideration, I have to conclue that Lord of the Rings is vastly superior to Harry Potter. In terms of Fantasy novels Lord of the RIngs wins soley on terms of scope. Tolkien created Middle Earth and wrote and entire history detailing its good times and its bad times. He created entire languages and stunning landscapes. Granted there are holes in the plot, the vastness of the series gives Lord of the Rings the edge. Harry Potter's advantages include readability and accessibility. The story is brillinat, but Rowling's prose is ammature to say the least. By the seventh book her style improves dramtically, but this cannot atone for the desperate state of her first three books, which fail to attain proper status as literature. But why even compare it to literatue? The goal of Harry Potter is enjoyment, and one finds much pleasure in the sometime intricate plots of the seven books.
