Everyday I carry a handful of items. For example everyday I put on a shirt and wear just about all day along. In addition, to my shirt I wear boxers, shorts and usually shoes. Everywhere I go I carry these items. Whether its to school or the grocery store or wherever, I always carry these items. No matter where I go They are always with me. Other than those items, there are few items I carry one hundred percent of the time. I usually have my Ipod because I value my music above most things. As far as figurative items I really don't carry anything. I try to bring an open mind and rationality to every piece of knowledge I ever learn. Rationality is the one metaphorical thing I try to embrace everyday. This helps me sort through the multitude of erroneous data that spews from the institution known as Henry Clay.

Somewhere in the Universe
Somewhere in the universe, there is a child sitting by his or herself starving. Maybe this child is from Malaysia, Sudan or even America. One in five children go hungry every night in the state of Kentucky. I am very lucky and this is rare. Unfortunate events occur all over the world, right now someone is dying and someone else is being born. I am watching Wild Boyz and thinking about other beings within the universe. Wild Boyz is about the guys from Jackass playing with animals; animals are in the universe right now. So much stuff goes on throughout the universe, it's hard to comprehend. Some undiscovered insect is prowling the rainforest floor, and I will discover it!!

What I Carry
Everyday, I carry my books and my backpack. This represents my drive and my will to succeed. I work hard at my studies and my books and notes are my tools to do this successfully. I need my school supplies to do well in school and my drive to succeed in the classroom demands my school supplies, which is something that I carry. When I golf (which is quite a bit), I carry my clubs. These represent my drive and my will to succeed athletically and in sports. It also gives me pleasure and is my favorite hobby. I take it extremely seriously and still compete in tournaments, but it is a hobby of mine nevertheless. I may carry a Bible sometimes, representing my ultimate love and respect for Jesus Christ. It helps me get through tough times, knowing that there is somebody who is pulling for me and in my favor. My Bible (and rosary) are the objects representing that love and ultimate trust.

At this moment somewhere in the universe their are aliens somewhere. I am convinced Aliens exist and if you don't believe me start watching the history channel. To be specific the show UFO Files and Ancient Aliens. You will be glued to the screen because it is the most interesting stuff you have ever seen. For example one time they proved that there was no way the stone hinge was built by man. My mind was blown out the side of my head. The only explanation is extraterrestrial forces. Aliens have been here and have done stuff. Another example do you honestly believe that the designs in the ground in Peru were done that precisely by man. There's no way. It's things like this that make you wonder. There's no way that everyone has been crying wolf the whole time. The only thing for sure is the government is hiding something. Somewhere in the Universe there are aliens.

Too Broad
At this very moment, somewhere in the universe, a child is starving. I could be a girl or boy, 2 or 11 years old. They might be living in Africa, or Haiti, or even the United States. They might be an orphan, or living with 6 other family members who are starving too. He might be sick with AIDS or malaria. They could be dying at 8 years old. They wish that someone was there to help them. Maybe someone will come. Someone might bring them a pair of shoes, or maybe some fresh water and crackers to eat. They would be so grateful to this kind man or woman. They could be a neighbor or travel halfway across the globe. It would make all the difference to that child. It could save their life, or satisfy their hungry stomach for the day, or maybe just make them smile. Unfortunately, also at this very moment, somewhere in the universe, a 400 pound man is stuffing his face with Twinkies and Big Macs.

Assignment 23: To Carry
“They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried.” - Tim O' Brien.
In his book, The Things They Carried, Tim O' Brien focuses on the tangible and metaphorical items that soldiers carry with them as they fight. You're not fighting a war, but you do have objects that you carry with you each day of your life. Pick one or two or three or seventeen of these items and explain why you carry them.
