I, for one, welcome our new computer overlords

A couple of weeks ago, I was at P. F. Chang's with my family, and it was a pretty normal dinner, yet I couldn't help but notice the table next to ours. Sitting there was a guy and a girl on a date, but it was the most bizarre date ever. The whole time I was peaking over at them, they didn't speak a single word to each other. No, they were busy typing away on Facebook with their phones. I couldn't tell if on Facebook they were chatting with each other, though it would be hilarious if they were; this incident highlights the major issue many have with technology — people are over relying on it and losing track of reality.

Technology was created with first and foremost the goal of helping people, and it has done that job splendidly. Just about everything we do has been facilitated by technology, from the alarm clock in the morning to the late night television shows, heck the keyboard I'm typing on right now is technology. Helpful as it is, more and more people are now relying on technology to solve the most basic of things. At the rate it's going, the future could be a place where people are whipping out calculators to find out what is 6 plus 7. It's kind of like a double-edged sword, making our lives easier, yet always carrying the danger of necessity.

But to some people, that is all technology do for us, to make us lives easier, and I can see why they would hate it. But to other people, it opens up a treasure trove of knowledge and information. It connects the entire world, allowing events from all over the globe to be recorded and shared, in turn exposing us to perspectives in a way never possible before. If I had to choose one thing that had the most impact on my outlook of life, it wouldn't be movies, it wouldn't be books, it would be the internet. If it wasn't for the internet, how else would I have known that just last week, a 24 year-old father died of a toothache because he didn't have insurance? Or that a man in North Carolina got his legs broken by a cop, then was sent to jail because he wouldn't stand in court? This kind of information gives me a new viewpoint of current issues, something I certainly would not have experienced if it weren't for technology. Getting rid of technology is not the solution, but perhaps letting go of the reliance on technology and instead finding a healthy balance between it and real life is.

Though as dangerous as technology may be, it has nothing on ninja bear.

The negative effect of technology on society

Has technology ever inconvenienced you or hurt you? Maybe technology got in your way, slowed you down or even literally hurt you? Have you seen technology have a negative impact on society?

Technology can be extremely hurtful and have a completely negative effect on today's society. Dont get me wrong, technology help in many ways, but I am going to focus on the negatives.

First of all, the Internet is a HUGE database with all kinds of people interacting with one another. The bad thing about this is that many people tend to either lie about who they are and this leads to sexual crimes. Or even on Facebook, some people are "cyber-bullied." This means that they are being bullied on the Internet where you can't even use physical violence to sort things out (just kidding)! But, truly suicide is the number two cause of death among today's teenagers and cyber-bullying, many times, causes kids to become depressed. That is a horrible thing for today's society. The other thing is that people today are COMPLETELY OBSESSED with their electronic devices (cell phones, computers, televisions, ipods, etc.). This causes people not to interact with others in person as much, which truly creates better relationships. Teenagers are always staring at their electronic screens all day long, and this is horrible for your brain and body. We are becoming an extremely overweight population partly because of what we eat, but a lot of it is the fact that people do not get as much exercise as they should to be healthy. This leads to heart attacks and obesity and other problems and diseases that will kill us. We will be lucky if America's average life span stays where it is, because right now, if people continue to live like this, it will diminish at an alarming rate- and soon!

All in all, technology is a great thing when used to be effective and only when necessary, but when we spend countless hours staring at screens, that is when technology becomes problematic for our nation, through stalkers, cyber-bullying, and our exercise and physical health.

How technology HURT me

I am a lover of the wonderful device known as the cell phone, and many of my peers have first-handed experience of the fact. At the end of my sophomore year, I had become increasingly confident with whipping out my cell phone in most of my classes. AP exams had ended and the classroom had gone from a nurturing learning environment to a zoo of summer anticipation. My peers and I were in coasting mode,so I spent most of my time on facebook and texting (which I never do in Mr. Logsdon's class). It was not difficult to get away with, at this point of the year, except for in Ms. Perry's French classroom. The first cell phone incident happened at 3:12 pm, 6th hour. We had just had an oral French test and I wanted to check my grade on infinite campus. Ms. Perry screeches, "Hand me the cell phone!"
Reluctantly, I relinquish the cell phone and sulk for the last three minutes of class. At the sound of the bell, I politely explain to Ms. Perry that I was checking my grade in HER class. Her abridged response to get out of her room and she was taking it to the office. Madame was already my least favorite teacher, and I would be stuck with her one more year for AP French. I was furious, even though she had every right to confiscate the phone, and convinced my mom to get my cell phone back. One would think that this would have been an educational experience for me, but I did not catch on. Over the next week she confiscated my phone two more times. The Henry Clay electronic device policy is that after the third confiscation, the phone will be kept until the end of the school year. With my mother's help, I convinced Mr. Nochta that I would not bring it to school for the rest of the year, if he would give it back. My relationship with my French teacher was no longer peaches and cream and I could no longer have my phone at school. A valuable lesson was learned, but my electronic device did hinder me.

I love x rated content and illegal music

Has technology ever inconvenienced you or hurt you? Maybe technology got in your way, slowed you down or even literally hurt you? Have you seen technology have a negative impact on society?

God yes, technology has hurt me. I can't count the number of times I'e dropped my printer on my foot or scanned my fingers instead. In all seriousness, technology can really be harmful, even if it is supposed to make life easier. Sometimes, we depend on it so much we are left helpless when it malfunctions. People depend on it so much that there's an app for everything, as the saying goes. You can now even access your car with your phone. What's so hard about reaching into your pocket and grabbing the keys?

Sometimes I think Pixar really gets it. Wall-E seems to be showing us the future of the human race. We've been using technology so much we've become sedentary and fat. Well, I guess a lot of Americans these days are sedentary and fat, but in that movie literally everyone is a walking piece of Diabetes. There are times when I've been out eating and see kids with DVD players at the table while the parents are off on their own. There's just something totally wrong with that. Technology makes us forget other things essential to quality living, such as family time, or enjoying nature as it takes is course. We seem to fail to notice the small things in life, and don't really live. Our faces are glued to screens almost constantly, and texting has been a bad habit shared by many of us. So what I'm saying is that while technology truly does help us and improve our quality of living, it also hurts us by causing us to lose our natural disposition as living beings. We've been sucked into a virtual world of porn and music. We don't really stop and smell the flowers anymore, or look at the sky while lying on the grass, watching as time goes by.

Not only has technology made us lose sense of life, but it has also made me lose my mind recently. With the internet, now I can get onto Infinite Campus to check my grades. Well, after religiously checking it, I have concluded life sucks and rocks with technology.

About Alex

Hey, I'm Alex Atwood, i'm 16 and go to henry clay's liberal arts academy (obviously). I play first court doubles for our team and tennis pretty much rules my life from fall until summer. My favorite players are Federer and Roddick. I played lacrosse until this year but couldn't commit to both varsity sports another year. Tennis, and school work this year. Unlike last year I plan on making all As, mostly to keep my car.

I enjoy english, mainly the creative writing aspect. Short stories and essays have always been a strong point for me. My favorite subject, however, is chemistry. This is almost expected if you know my family because when I get my Phd in chemistry I will be the 7th living member of my family to have one. My grandad is the 30th most cited professor in the world.

One of my favorite websites is http://mylifeisbro.com/ . This is a sort of FML or TFLN but more chill. I don't play lacrosse anymore but I like to think of myself as a bro.

Hope this was entertaining, late pass pending tomorrow.

Assignment 2: iWrite

In 1976, Steve Jobs became a co-founder of Apple. 35 years later he is retiring and putting his enormous company into different hands. His departure does not just mean a promotion for Tim Cook, the new CEO, but a major shift in a company that has been a key player in technology innovation in the 21st century.

So, this brings us to your writing for the week:

How has technology affected your life?

Choose one of the following prompts and in 150 words or more, provide your answer.
  • Has technology affected you in a majorly positive way? What happened?
  • Has technology ever inconvenienced you or hurt you? Maybe technology got in your way, slowed you down or even literally hurt you? Have you seen technology have a negative impact on society?
  • How would your life have been different if you'd grown up 20 years earlier? How would you interact with others? Do you think your relationships then would differ from your present relationships? Which time period would you prefer and why?
  • How often do you use your ipod (or phone or whatnot)? What is your perfect playlist for ____ (fill in the blank - it could be your perfect playlist for a sunny day, for a road trip, for thanksgiving, etc.) Choose 5 songs, note the song and artist and why you chose this song.

The deadline for this blog is Sunday, September 4 at 11:59 p.m.

I Arrive!

I am Ned. Thank you Zeronos for the introduction. That above image? Kamen Rider Zeronos. A character from a Japanese Live-Action series. I absolutely love that stuff, Tokusatsu (literally translates to special effects) is my favorite thing. I'm hugely into it, which should give you a pretty good idea of what kind of person I am. Geeky things (or whatever adjective you want to use) are my forté. Super Robot shows, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Battlestar Galactica, Metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokémon, DC Comics, all that kind of stuff. I take a lot of enjoyment out of it. I'm an obsessive collector, and I love acquiring things. I collect a ton of action figures along with movies, books, etc. That's pretty much who I am.

Thanks to Henry Clay i've found a lot of great friends who I can share my interests in, and that's just WONDERFUL. That's my favorite thing about school, having great people to be around. Most people I know are great. If you're reading this, chances are 9/10 you're also great. Things are great. Academics are extremely important as well, and being in the academy is a great opportunity to learn things. I usually go on rants a lot, it took a couple rewrites to turn this post into this instead of a long rant about the history of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. That happens a lot with me, unfortunately or not.

For my link? The site I visit the most. Yeah, it's 4chan but it's not THAT kind of 4chan you're most likely thinking of. The /toy/ board is generally very nice, and they're a good community especially for collectors such as myself. Yeah (safe warning, I am not responsible for what you see on this page and you're clicking on it at your own risk. It's not /b/ 4chan, but it's still 4chan)

I'm just a kid but they calling me the man- Mac Miller

I'm not sure how to start this off without being boring but i guess it goes something like this... Hello! I'm Braxton DeCamp and I am a Junior at Henry Clay High school. I went to The Lexington School since Pre-Kindergarden to 8th grade, and since then have been at Henry Clay.I try to get involved in in and out of school activities and hate to be stuck at home. I have one sister named Elise who is a Junior at Centre college in Danville, and she went to Henry Clay for her Junior and Senior year and Sayre her Freshman and Sohpomore year, and she actually had Mr. Logsdon at one point during those two years. My favorite subjects in school are math and science. This year I am going to attempt to get all A's but it definitely will not be easy. I have my license and drive to school everyday. I am a very outdoorsy guy and love to kayake, mountain climb, and hike; I plan on joining the outdoors club this year after sadly not being able to join last year.

As many of my fellow students know me as the "lax bro" because apparently I perfectly fit the preppy lacrosse player. While on that topic my favorite sport is lacrosse and I pretty much live it, my favorite website is www.lacrosseforums.com which is is a lacrosse blog type website. I play for Henry Clays team and have started since my freshman year at the "attack" position which is basically like a forward for soccer, point guard for basketball, quarter back for football, and who cares about baseball its awful; basically, all I do is offense very little defense. I also play for a travel summer lacrosse team called Lexington Premier, and where ever the team goes to play the first thing asked is "You play lacrosse in Kentucky?" or "What is that blob on your jersey?" and it is clearly a giant Kentucky or the fan favorite is "Do you ride your horse to school and do you wear shoes?" I hope to play college lacrosse at a D-3 college or a small D-1 school if possible.

I also love music, I basically listen to all music from classic rock all the way to dubstep. Right now I'm listening to some great bassnectar to keep me energized to write this entire blog. I have over 3,000 songs on my itunes but more that 97% were not purchased exactly the most legal way, but hey who doesn't think Lil Wayne has enough money as is and what is a few hundred dollars from itunes to him that I would have had to spend. My favorite artist right now is Mac Miller que the title and he is an up and coming white rapper, who is recently known as the new Eminem, whatever that means.

I went to Italy for two weeks this summer with my family and our friends and it was amazing. I went to Rome, Venice, Vatican City, Florence, and a small town in the Tuscan countryside. It was crazy being in a completely different country from the US and seeing how people are different not just by language but just how they live in general. I think the best city was Florence and I wish i could have spent more time there. Once I'm in college I would love to be able to study abroad back there. The one thing I miss most about Italy was the pizza, I had it almost everyday I was there because it was so good!

My picture is of a drawing from a guy on a different lacrosse site, not me, but I wish I could draw that well!

Hello World!

Leo and Caroline

I don’t really know how to begin this, so I’m just going to start somewhere. I don’t tend to put these things off, but I’ve decided to wait and read some other posts before writing mine. Without further ado, here’s my first blog post. I’m assuming these things are more of a stream of consciousness, so forgive me if I randomly switch subjects.

Hello! I’m Chris Chow, and I’m the younger brother of my family. I was born in Los Angeles, and moved to Lexington when I was three. I also have two cats, Leo and Caroline. They’re from the same litter and are the two cats in the picture. They are two and a half years old, and are partially-outdoor cats. An interesting fact about me is that I’ve traveled outside of the country many more times before I could walk than I have after. However, when I do travel, I really enjoy the experience of being in an airport; maybe it’s because it’s such an interesting experience, but it’s probably because I’ve watched too many movies. Whatever it is, I’ve always wanted to travel the world.

Something else noteworthy is that I’m an avid fan of computers. I’m not just a fan of video games, but computers themselves. I’m interested in how they work, how they’re put together, and how to program them. For instance, the computer that I’m writing this blog post from was custom-built by me. Contrary to the media’s perspective on things, it’s all just a matter of buying the parts and putting them together with some screws. I generally order my parts from Newegg or 3BTech.

Now let’s move on to more random facts about myself. I am currently/will be participating in the following: The Henry Clay Orchestra, The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras, Spanish Club, and volunteering at the Village Branch Library. As hinted by the previous sentence, I play the violin, and have been doing so since the fourth grade. I haven’t quit orchestra yet, unlike certain people (who are aware of who they are), and I intend to continue playing, at least as a hobby, for quite some time. I’m an avid reader of fiction novels of any sort, as long as they’re interesting and are a part of a series. It always irritates me when a good book idea is never finished, never fleshed out completely.

Speaking of pet peeves, here’s a mini-list of mine:

1.) Before you ask, no, I am not Chinese, Japanese, Korean (South or North), Vietnamese, Thai, or Mongolian. I am one-half Taiwanese and one-half Cantonese. While China insists that Taiwan and Hong Kong are a part of it, I’m going to disagree because A.) They both have separate dialects that are spoken there more than Mandarin and B.) They both have separate currencies from the Chinese Yuan.

2.) I really detest the usage of improper grammar. Even if it’s on the internet, or you’re texting, please, and I beg of you, ignore grammar. I can live with misspelled words, but improper grammar actually makes me cringe. Seriously. Don’t do it. Think of the children. By the way, here’s a little something that I find particularly amusing.

3.) My hatred for poor grammar extends so far that I had to use two whole numbers for expressing the same pet peeve. I’m not going to continue elaborating about how much I utterly despise this, but if you just remember to put in that comma or apostrophe, the world will become a better place.

Moving on to the more relatable bits of information about me. Classical music is such a large genre of music, but some composers who are higher up on my list are Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, and Chopin. I don’t really mind newer music, but I particularly enjoy movie soundtracks by Hans Zimmer. I also enjoy the usual “geeky” movies, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars, among other things, but I also do watch more serious movies. I’ve also been watching an abnormal amount of TV these last few months, and I’m blaming Netflix. Some TV shows that I’ve been watching are Chuck, Psych, Scrubs, White Collar, and Doctor Who (feel free to click the links to read more about them).

Well, there we have it. More information about myself in one location than can be found anywhere else. As you can see from the various links that I’ve added, I’m fond of using Wikipedia, but mostly for general information on something and news. As time winds down, I’ve realized that I probably spent too much time writing this and thinking about it than I needed to. Well, spending a lot of time on something to make it good is better than hastily creating some shoddy work.

That’s about it. Now it’s time for an abrupt ending.

slacker people, teaching other slacker people, to not be slackers

yeah, that word could be accurately used to describe me. i am Michael, or known as the kid with JESUS in his last name, or even more so recently as the kid with the beard. admittedly, i am a slacker, and pretty much all the people who know me would call me that, whether affectionately or not i'm really not sure. this is quite evident by the fact that i am doing this post an hour before it's due, despite the fact that we have had it for 2 weeks. i even went so far as to log in and start my blog last week, before realizing it wasnt due till today, at which point i promptly logged off and went to bed. some will end up doing this later than me tonight, but had this been due written in class tomorow, i probably would have ended up doing it in school before i had this class. that is where i end up doing most of my homework, and its very convenient that way. the way i see it, use your time in school to the very fullest, and you only have to spend minimal time outside of it on school things. Besides, between baseball and football and basketball, i hardly have time outside of the 8 hours of school that i would consider doing homework.

thats pretty much the defining points of my life. i play football and baseball varsity at Henry Clay, and coach basketball for my younger brother during the winter. sports are extremely fun to me, and im pretty good at them so its an easy outlet for my competetiveness. i like to win or be the best at everything, not in an obnoxious way, but it does make me feel better when i succeed at something. for example, getting a 33 on the ap exam made me feel pretty good looking at some of the other scores, but then hearing someone else got a 35 just brought me down a little. Not a big deal, im not gonna freak out about it, but that shows, i am extremely competetive.

Now that ive rambled on for a while, including completely changing the subject of my last paragraph about mid-way through, i think ill wrap it up, i do have other homework due by midnight tonight after all. my site is somewhat appropriate, even tho the picture isnt exactly pushing the envelope, but it is a majority of my internet access, so be warned before you access it, though it may be comedically hilarious, you might not want to show this to your sunday school teacher when she asks what youve been talking about the last few weeks.

(oh, and the title, a reference to the great Samuel, and the fact that my blog is still under 5 hour. lovin it Mrs Carpenter)

And I just said, "Dude, your perspective on life sucks".

When you don't give me guidelines, bad things happen.

Needless to say, the situation may become all the more disastrous due to my current state of mind. I am currently writing this on a sugar high, because… it seems to be the only state in which I can accomplish much of anything.

I'm Olivia. And if it were up to me, this is all I would share with you today. But this isn’t the case, so I must continue. I like all members of the class Gastropoda, old books, and ellipsis points. I will always overuse ellipsis. I don’t speak coherently when I talk to you personally, therefore the transference of that will be evident here.

I know the name of nearly any Pokemon up until those released after 2007, I can tell you quite a bit about the Giant Cuttlefish, and I am a total music freak. I have minimal hoarding tendencies- I collect books, teapots, stone figurines, candles, vinyl records, and anything regarding the Muppets. I cried when I saw Salvador Dalí’s Crucifixion (Corpus Hypercubus) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, my favorite song is “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead, and one of the crowning moments of my life was when I beat Monkeyball 2 for the third time.

I’m really into Biology and Psychology (not too original, I know). Every Saturday I work at a community garden and chill out with some DJs and Biology majors at UK. Most DJs I’ve met slightly resemble garden gnomes and love vegetables. Who knew?

I’m totally addicted to the shows Monster Bug Wars and Into the Wormhole on the Science Channel. I’m sorry, but watching a Bulldog Raspy Cricket kick the crap out of a Whistling Tarantula is just SO COOL.

I think the highlight of my summer was going to see MUSE perform in Indianapolis. I cannot even begin to describe the experience.

I am also hopelessly in love with the movie Ponyo. Don’t judge.

I’m terribly involved in clubs this year. At the moment, I am the President of Psychology Club, part of the administration for Go Green club, a member of Outdoors Club, FCCLA, Anchor Club, Y-Club, and Beta Club. I will also be working at a youth drop-off center downtown and hopefully participating in some fundraising walks this year.

I wish I was a Boy Scout.

Now back to the part where I’m still typing this. The night before it is due. At about nine in the evening. And I can blame it all on these three beautiful time-wasters:

Did you appreciate my picture? I thought so. Elliot's image evoked... inspiration.

My name is Aaron and I like stuff.

Okay so yes, my name is Aaron Meek and I do indeed like stuff. Most everyone who will be reading this knows me to some extent, but if you don't then I am about six and a half feet tall with
the body of a Greek god and a voice that sounds like honey spread over warm bread. But moving away from the dumb jokes and going back to the awesomely, generic title; I like stuff. I really like stuff, to the point that I obsess over it. It's pretty embarrassing actually. Someone will bring something up as a casual conversion and twenty minutes later they are too fatigued with my esoteric ramblings to come up with a lame excuse and just walk away.

As far as what my nerdy obsessions are at the moment, I really like fantasy novels. This summer I was inundated with fantasy goodness between the new release in one of my favorite series with George R.R Martin's A Dance of Dragons and new( to me) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. There just awesome, in the best sort of nerdy way.

I am a massive sports fan, primarily basketball and football. Once again, my interest in these games transcend the normal. I pull stats from twenty- five years ago out in conversation and people just stare at me. I pretend its in awe, when in actuality they are kind of creeped out by how much I know about sweaty men running up a field together. What can I say like sweaty men.

But as much as I like sweaty men, I do not like being a sweaty man. I sweat constantly and this is because of yet another thing I like, my Xbox. Oh lord she is a vicious mistress. This summer, I played an absolutely embarrassing amount of video games. You can see the clerks at the local Gamestop salivating when I walk in because they are about to take me to the cleaners. I am trying to become more active, but not by getting rid of the Xbox. No, I moved a treadmill in front of my television. I look so stupid. I know I do. Picture it, chunky white boy with baggy t- shirt, orange shorts well above the knee, black tuque, slowly dying on a treadmill screaming at androgynous cartoon characters. On second thought, forget I shared that.

So you all probably good have done without any of that, but it was fun. I apologize ahead of time for the punctuation and the image of me on a treadmill. However awkward this may have been, if I made one of you laugh it was worth it. So yeah, goodbyes are hard, I like stuff, and here is a website.

Hey, I’m Luke Yurkoski.

I enjoy many facets of this thing called life. I love music, tennis, snowboarding, traveling, movies, art and the outdoors.

I listen to all kinds of music. I love Rock, Classic Rock, Indie Rock, Classical, Metal (not screamo), some Rap, Alternative, Folk, Jazz, Rag, Funk, Funk Rock and just about everything in between. In addition I play guitar, piano, and drums (well, kind of). Playing and listening to music is not so much of a hobby as it is an obsession for me. I devote a good portion of my free time either playing or listening to music. Needless to say, music consumes my life.

After nine years of baseball, I quit. I do admit that my years spent in Little League were some of my best. All sports are boring at times, however I feel baseball reaches a level of boringivity (made-up word for dramatic effect) that cannot be matched. So, I switched to tennis. In tennis, a player is engaged in every point. It can at times be boring to watch, but is never boring to play. In addition to tennis, I enjoy a pick-up game of basketball, football, and ultimate Frisbee.

My current favorite website is Pitchfork, which is a website devoted to the cotemporary music scene. It is the best place to find new music.

http://pitchfork.com/

And the name Yurkoski is Polish.

A "Little" About Me!

Greetings! I am Cullen Smith, and this is the first blog post that I have ever done...pretty cool, right? I'm not sure if I get the jist of this assignment, but oh well, here goes!
One thing I love to be is involved, wherever I am. I would definitely describe myself as someone who hates sitting home and doing nothing. At Henry Clay, I am involved in the Academic Team, the Young Republicans, Student Council (I am junior class Vice-President!), the Latin Club (which I am President of!), I used to be in the Symphonic Band, and I am involved in the drama department. The spring production of "Wit", where I was a student with eight lines (!!), was my theatrical debut. Pretty exciting, right?

At the moment, I am learning to be a better driver, which is quite a challenge for me, and as I would guess, for everyone! I got my permit in April, almost exactly one month from my birthday (March 30th) because I was studying and stressing over the test; and because I was in Italy. Let me now gush about my wonderful experience in Italy!!

Italy is easily the most beautiful (and preserved) country in the world. Rome was magnificent, Venice was like nothing I had ever seen before, and I could have easily ridden on the Amalfi Coast for the rest of my life. I'm serious! Italy's really cool because one minute you see a guy get off a moped and go into a pizza place and then the next minute you see the ruins of a structure that's thousands of years old. I have posted a picture (not taken by me) of San Gimignano, which is a small town in Tuscany, and it is very easily the most peaceful and beautiful city on Earth. I wish I could post pics of all of my favorite places in Italy, but there just simply isn't enough space!

But enough about Italia: let's come back into the present. I hope that in this class I will become a better writer, because I go on and on about ideas that I am passionate about (like now). But I also hope that I will gain a better appreciation for writing, which I can tell already that I will.

I know that almost half of the Academy will tell you they want to be a doctor, but it is seriously something that I want to do with my life. All around me I see people that are struggling for a doctor to cure them of diseases that keep them from enjoying life, and I legitimately want to help them!

And finally, I suppose I have to post the link to favorite website.....

My favorite website is definitely ibc-lex.org, because it is my church's website, and my church is extremely important to me!

Thank you, sayonara, and good night!

Purple Elephants

Hello everyone. My name is Emily Lain, but some of you all may know me as "Ginger". I have lived in Lexington for almost six years, but was born and lived my first ten years in Pittsburgh, PA. GO STEELERS!! I promise I'm not one of those fans that just like them sometimes, I like them ever when they aren't winning. I bleed black and yellow ALL the time! Sorry I haven't quite mastered the whole Go UK thing, I'm still getting used to it. But in advance, "No I didn't watch the UK game last night" I apologize. I live on 12 acres with my three younger brothers, parents, two dogs, and a horse. It takes about 20 minutes or so to get anywhere but I love the area and the country. The only thing I wish I could change is I want an elephant. I know it sounds crazy but elephants are my favorite animal but if I could have one I would be the happiest person EVER. Especially if it was PURPLE! I LOVE the color purple so a purple elephant would be absolutely perfect!!! But back to the important things before high school I went to Edythe J. Hayes Middle School. I'm pretty involved in high school and extracurricular activities in the community, but I won't bore you with my list of activities. You're welcome :)

I am looking forward to Junior year very much so and am excited for all of the opportunities supposedly awaiting me. We'll see how that goes. I really hope to survive this year maintaining the grade-point average that I some how managed to continue to achieve last year, but again we'll see how that goes. Thus far I am enjoying my classes, liking my teachers, and excited to start going to club meetings! Personally, I'm just going to try to survive this year by making it less stressful and lessening the pressure. Especially college, because I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I WANT TO GO much less what I want to do and just thinking about it gives me a head ache. However everytime I go somewhere a concert, a show, and exhibit I find something new I want to do. For instance today my family and I went to the circus (there were elephants there :) and I was very happy) and now all I want to do is be part of the circus! Whether it be in the band (because I have played the cello for seven years) or be a doctor (what I think I want to do) or help with the elephants (elephants <3). As you can see I don't make decisions very easily.

Over the summer I feel like I didn't do much. I did a lot at the beginning but then I kind of stopped after the 4th of July. Probably the most meaningful thing I did was visit colleges. I went to Indianapolis and Dallas to look as some of my favorite schools. I also had a lot of family time which was really nice since my brothers seem to be growing up so fast :(

The question of superpowers is one that is asked often and I would have to say it would either be the ability to read people's minds or invisibility. Both would have both good and bad aspects, so maybe I would want the ability to be immune to everyone else's powers. Like they couldn't use them on me or I could see through them. Thats what I want!! My favorite website would have to be http://www.cnn.com . It may sound totally lame, but it's the only way I know whats going on in the world. When my dad set up my computer he set the CNN website as my homepage and its been there ever since. So ever time I get on the interenet thats the first thing I see. But besides CNN my most website besides Facebook and Twitter (follow me #EmilyLain) is http://www.hulu.com . I watch EVERYTHING on Hulu. I just can't watch regular TV anymore!

Well I hope you learned a little bit more about me and my life! And remember the best present ever would be a PURPLE ELEPHANT <3

Life has been found on other planets! Read on!

Actually, that's a total lie. Hope you aren't too disappointed, I actually don't even know anything about space so this post probably won't be even slightly related to the title. Seriously, though, I'm Coleton, and I've never wrote a blog before so don't laugh if this is bad.
So, my name's Coleton Cuddy and I used to live in Danville but moved here in 4th grade. I enjoy long walks on the beach and am in the Henry Clay Academy as a Junior. My high school career has usually consisted of putting schoolwork and studying on the back burner for things that are more fun, but this year I'm trying to be more focussed on getting good grades. I just got my permit about a week ago, which is pretty lame considering I put it off a month. Plus, my birthday's in July, so that made it take forever too.
My plans for the future are... well I don't know. Which is actually a rare thing considering 60% of the Academy wants to be a doctor and the rest want to be a lawyer or something, but I can't decide. I'll probably go to UK anyways, it's a nice school and close to my hometown. I used to want to be a doctor, but after Rexford's anatomy class I came to the realization that if I can barely touch a skinned and sliced up lab cat without gagging I probably won't make it with actual people.
Well, hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading. And to all you other procrastinatastic bloggers out there, good job waiting till the night its due you should feel awful for waiting so long.

In case you're wondering, yes that is a picture of me.

Actually, I lied. That is not a picture of me; in fact, it is about as far from me as you can get. It depicts a tennis ball colliding with the crotch of a rather unfortunate dog (at high velocity no less). Not one human can be seen. I have no idea what that says about me, but it makes me laugh.

I digress.

My name is Augustus Logsdon. I would go by my nickname Gus, but our teacher, Mr. Logsdon, to whom I have no relation, insists that Augustus sounds cooler. Who am I to argue? I didn't major in English; I haven't even been to college. I hope to soon though, which is why I plan for good test scores and straight A's this year. Of course, plans don't always follow through. For example, in seventh grade, I told myself that I would end my habit of procrastination. Tragically, I put it off until the next year, and repeated the process annually. I have since given up, and I still can't break the habit as evidenced by this last minute blog entry. I finished my summer reading earlier than usual, but that's about all I can say.

In fact, I only did that because I had nothing to do in Florida. My family vacationed to a secluded peninsula on the peninsula (peninsula-ception?) for one full week. The allure of the top dollar beach only lasted for about three days, and then we realized that everything fun was an hour's drive away. Don't get me wrong, I felt nice and relaxed, but there wasn't much to do except read and browse the internet (on a side note, you should really check out reddit. It basically aggregates everything interesting on the internet and covers every subject ever). I wished, like I always do, that I could just stop time and stay there, but alas, school was slowly creeping up through my schedule, and the time had almost come to enter junior year. In fact, if I could stop time right now and take a break from my homework, I would absolutely do it. Stopping time is about the most all around useful super-power in my opinion. If you could do that, you would effectively be able to teleport anything anywhere, at least it would appear that way to an observer, and do whatever you felt like to it.

I think that tidily sums up my "get to know me" blog entry. Hopefully, I answered any and all questions you may have had, but I know that's not true, so I present you with an ultimatum. I will tell you anything you want to know if you do just one thing; ask me questions. I will be more than happy to respond.

Annie blogs about things: The comic: The musical

So. I seem to be finally getting around to doing this blogging assignment(and evidently I'll be bisecting multiple innocent infinitives along the way). The only problem is, well, I'm rather confused about what to put here! But let's start off with the basics, shall we?

My name is Anne Summers. I am fifteen years of age. I've got two older siblings, both of whom are in college, one of whom is just starting college this year. My father is a history professor at UK, and, if I'm not mistaken, later this year, in US History, he shows up briefly in a documentary about Grover Cleveland. Assuming we actually watch that this year. We might not. I am heavily involved in a great deal of fandoms, but primarily Homestuck. I draw a lot, as people who've gone to elementary or middle school with me may know.

Despite the fact that I honestly should start thinking about this, considering how many times my mom asks me about it every week, I don't really have a very clear idea of what I want for my future. Well, okay, that isn't entirely true. I know what I want to do, I just don't know what I should do. For a long time, I've wanted to be an cartoonist of some form, but certain circumstances don't really facilitate that. Cartoonists don't get paid very much, and I've heard that it's incredibly difficult to find work as one. However, my parents have suggested that I become a lawyer, which is an idea that I'm not terribly fond of. I mean, sure, if I'm good enough, it's possible that I'll earn a lot of cash, but the job, to me, just sounds like it would be rather exhausting, and my rhetoric would need great development. (Also, my speech, considering that it's apparently very difficult for people to hear me when I'm talking normally.)

Let me make a rather lame segue here: this summer, I began going to speech therapy. But I also went to two other continents! The first trip was one for the Sister Cities program, which links Lexington to towns in Japan, France, Britain, and Ireland. (I went to Japan.) While in Japan, I stayed with a host family. They kind of spoke English. A little. It was understandable, most of the time, and I am exceedingly honored that they went to the effort of trying to learn it. I kind of spoke a little Japanese, as well. My family was apparently honored at that, too. Those of you who were in classes with me last year may remember that one time in March when I brought an exchange student to school. I was able to meet her and her family again, as my host family and her family were close. In Japan, our group went to three different high schools and visited the English class in each, where we were kind of used for training. Also, we made takoyaki, which, despite the fact that it is basically octopus chunks in balls of batter, is really good! On one of the days, my host family went to a samurai-themed amusement park, where I acquired lots of souvenirs. (It wasn't an amusement park like Disneyland is an amusement park. More like...one of those places where people recreate frontier life and wear period-appropriate dress.) There were other places I acquired souvenirs at, as well, like the aquarium and the soy sauce factory, but this paragraph has continued on for quite long enough.

I also went to Europe this summer. The main motivator was the fact that my brother was performing in the International Sousa Concert Band, but another strong factor was the fact that, strangely enough, my cousin and grandmother has planned to go to Europe around the same time. We spent about fourteen days in Europe, beginning in Florence and ending in Paris. In Florence, the architecture was absolutely gorgeous. There were multiple museums full of statues and Italian Renaissance art, as well as many churches. (Also, like in Venice, there were gelaterias on almost every street corner.) Following that, we parted with my cousin and my grandmother, and went to Switzerland. Luzern was first. In Luzern, we climbed up the Alps, which were full of mist. Imagine a giant, low-flying cloud. That's essentially what we were stuck in through the majority of our hike upwards to the lodgings. We weren't worried, though, because all around us, we could hear the sound of hundreds upon hundreds of clanging cowbells. (Apparently the mountain climate is good for cows?) The way back down was much more difficult and painful than the way up, and not for any emotional reasons. We kept getting lost, and eventually found a trail composed of nothing but extremely steep steps for about a mile. By the end, even hearing the mention of the word "steps" would cause someone to break into tears. Following our alpine ventures, we headed to Lugano, where we intended to hear 2 out of 2 of the band's concerts. We ended up hearing 0 out of 0, thanks to sloppy planning and bad weather. (I got to hear an excellent Queen cover band in place of the first concert, at least.) I also acquired the best chicken sandwich ever from a bakery, and I got the most exercise I've gotten out of the entire summer there (LOTS AND LOTS OF UPHILL WALKING). After that, we headed into VENICE. My advice: If you ever go to Europe in the summer, don't go to Venice then. It is incredibly humid (duh, water+heat=humidity) and filled with tourists(this might be a year-round thing). Being filled with canals, the main method of transportation is boat. Alternately, you can go across some of the many bridges. Venice is set up very nicely and filled with tiny alleyways. It's very easy to get lost there, although getting lost there is certainly not a bad thing. Venice has two specialties, shopwise: masks and glass. If you've ever seen those masks with feathers and sparkles and such on them, you should know what a typical Venice mask looks like. As for glass, there are shops that have tiny figurines of glass in almost any form: ballerina, musician, snail, rabbit, swan, frog, fishbowl, cat, practically anything you can name. Then we went to Paris, where we went to the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa. In my opinion, seeing the ol' ML wasn't really worth it. It's no big deal. Seeing the numerous Dutch/Flemish paintings, on the other hand, was TOTALLY worth it. Partially because we didn't have to fight our way through the crowds in order to see the paintings.

Oh wow, I've written a lot here, haven't I?

After a lot of consideration, I've (sort of) figured out what my favorite website would be. My initial idea was that MS Paint Adventures was my favorite site. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure what sort of "rating" it would garner. Perhaps PG-13, considering how many characters end up dying. So, after a lot of careful consideration and elimination, I finally decided that my favorite website is TV Tropes. It's a website that functions as a pseudo-wiki, without using the standard wikia template, and it has information on thousands of different forms of media. Webcomics, films, literature, video games, animation: it's basically got it all. Furthermore, the majority of the pages are dedicated to cataloguing different conventions in media. Plus, it's a very easy way to lose four or five hours of your day.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage (go ahead. type something into the search bar. have fun.)

(Just a reminder: It's Annie Summers. I don't know how to change my blog name. Whoops.)

Hope I Don't Rant to Hard

Hey my name is Cameron Boone. I go by many nicknames not all of which I'm proud of but have learned to accept. If you want to know what I'm talking about ask a close friend or someone on the soccer team. This is the third year I've been in high school and I've been new at a school three times, twice freshman year and now. I'm from Lexington I went the The Lexington School since I was four so since Pre-K. When I went to high school started my freshman year at IMG academies in Bradenton Florida. I went there for soccer and I went to Saint stephens Episcopal school for my schooling. I had school for four hours a day which believe me is adequate I took the five core classes and that's it. I played soccer every day for three hours. I loved it i had two roomates and friends from every continent who spoke all sorts of languages. It was college at the age of fifteen and sixteen. Soccer is my passion it is what motivates me and keeps me on the straight and narrow. I hope to play division one for the university of denver in two years.
I like to travel but I have only been out of the country once part of this reason is because my family has a second home in Park City, Utah. I love to ski and I don't mind telling people I'm good at it. I can do any thing except jump off cliffs. I can't do that cause I've had a scaring experience were I didn't see one coming and luckily didn't get hurt but it was bad phycologically. When I travel its usually for soccer I've been to Vegas, Texas, Florida and many other places including Brazil.
I get annoyed easily by pet peeves of mine which include the lacking of seasons in Florida, I'm a seasonal man, that loud screechy noise, ignorance and incompetence, someone eating my food out of the fridge, people who think they are cool because they smoke marijuana, when someone doesn't hear you and u have to say it again, my mom at least once a week, the hype about grades, a B is fine with me I would rather be social and have connections and have a B or two than be a book worm who can't socialize, and salads. I just don't understand how someone gets enjoyment out of a salad.
I'm a passionate sports fan and follow my two teams through thick and thin. My teams are Oklahoma State and Kentucky. Then I sorta like the Panthers and the Reds but not with my whole heart. I also love horses and Keeneland and hope to do the same as my dad and be an equine vetrenarian.
I will not back down in an argument because I feel like I'm right or I wouldn't be arguing. I cry involuntarilly when I watch scary movies just ask Haddon about that one. My favorite movie is Kicking and Screaming with will ferrel, I love it. I'm a card shark when it comes to poker so if any one reads this and wants to play some texas holdem I'm ready lets do it.
That's pretty much everything that one would need to know about me with out getting personal. So yeah that was easy

Palmer's Picture

This is a picture of my favorite city, LA!

why did I wait so long to do this?

Hey guys, I'm Haddon. Feel free to call me Haddo because that's what people seem to call me now. I'm looking forward to junior year; it's going to be pretty fun. I was born here in Lexington but moved to Hawaii when I was nine. The picture is of the sun setting over downtown Honolulu near Waikiki. I've had the honor of meeting leaders from many countries when they visited. I learned how to play the ukulele while I was there. I actually took a class during school and I love to play it. Even today I still teach myself new music to play. People get a kick out of hearing some of the names of streets from around there. There are some what we here call "normal" and then there are the cool ones (ie Makalapa Drive Kamehameha Hwy, Liliu'okalani Hwy) The best name is the name of the unofficial state fish, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (or you can just call it the trigger fish). I have my sailing license over there too, if that means anything. It would take me pages to explain what all went on while we were over there but to put it simply...it was awesome. We lived there for 3 years and go back to visit friends every other year. I went to TLS for 1st-3rd grade and the 7th and 8th.

I live and breathe sports to the extent where i know the most random facts. My friends mess around and come up to me and ask "What exactly is Terrence Cody wearing right now?" I collect small sized authentic football helmets. There are quite a few up there (those of you who have been in my room know exactly what I'm talking about). I love UK basketball and football but most preferably football. People always think I'm crazy when I say that but I guess that's their problem. I also love the University of Alabama and the University of Hawaii. I play basketball and lacrosse for Henry Clay. Basketball is very time-demanding, therefore time management will have to improve this year. I'm very much into politics, just ask around. I'm passionate about what I believe in, so if you ever want to talk about something like that, come and find me.

My dad was in the Navy for 39 years! Yea, that's weird. I'm a math and science person but I really enjoy American History and I'm pretty sure that this English class will be legit because I enjoy persuading and "arguing." I'm an outgoing guy who likes to make people laugh and people will say that I am rarely in a bad mood, or at least show it. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. I can't believe we're already half way through high school. My favorite website would have to be ESPN.com http://www.espn.com . My twitter is @haddo7 in case you were wondering. I know you were

So now that you know 30 things about me I'm going to write a paragraph about my summer. This summer I went to Spain for a month and half. I went with a group of kids from across the U.S and we lived in Seville with host families. It was without a doubt the best experience of my life, and being immersed in the Spanish culture was easily the highlight of my summer. I made many good friends there that I still keep in touch with, and I plan to go back to Seville within a few years or so. The picture attached is one of Plaza de San Francisco, one of the main plazas in Seville.

My fav website is www.twitter.com. Follow me @logangardner, I have amazingly funny tweets and need more followers.

first blog ever

Hi guys, my name is Allen and I'm the youngest in my family. It certainly wasn't too fun growing up being the youngest but now that my brother and sister are off to college I have the house to myself basically.

Here's a little history about myself. I was born in Taiwan and moved to America when I was four. I lived in Massachusetts and Iowa before I came to Kentucky, so I never really grew up in one place. One thing that moving around made me realize was that I really liked traveling. If I ever get to the point in my life where I either retire or make enough money to do fun things, I would travel the world. I like going on vacations to different places like Asia or Europe and just eating all the different foods is really fun.

This year I've really started to try to be less lazy about things in general and start to actually do work. Now when I look back on last year, I realized I wasted that year doing absolutely nothing productive. For my junior year, I've joined several activities including EAP, outdoors club, and beta club. What I'm really good at is violin though. I started playing violin when I was 7 and I really liked it. Then I started thinking that playing it was pretty dorky and I practiced with minimal effort for a couple of years. It was only until this summer when I've really started getting back into my music and realizing that I'm really good at it and I shouldn't quit (mentally). I went to a music summer camp this year and it helped me focus in on what I need to be doing and be more disciplined in what I do.

If I could have a superpower it would be either the power to read minds or to stop time just because those two powers can be used for serious situations or if you were bored and wanted something fun to do. I want to say that my favorite website is facebook not because I post a bunch of things on it but because it's the website I go to the most. Also I go on it to play hold'em poker which I really like doing but am not legally able to do with anything of monetary value. So instead I am going to choose a website that I like to go to if I want to laugh which is http://perfectlytimedphotos.com/. It is a bunch of funny pictures with even funnier captions that you can contribute to if you wanted.

SHALOM

Haaay classmates! My name is Palmer, if you don't know me, I sit in the middle and don't really contribute much to the discussions. I will try to work on this throughout the year. I transferred to Henry Clay this year from a boarding school, Episcopal High School, in Alexandria, VA near DC. No, I didn't get sent away there because I got into trouble and such.

I have a huge interest in fashion and I hope to be a magazine editor or work in the industry in some way in the future. Next summer I am interning for a fashion stylist in Los Angeles. She dresses celebrities for magazine photo shoots. For school I plan on applying to the FIDM in LA and Parsons in New York. Also, I enjoy Spanish and I hope to take a few weeks next summer to study abroad in Spain.

My favorite website would be http://twitter.com/. Follow me @jamekamon5555

Well I'm off to the circus. Peace, love, and elephants

Have to do this before I forget

Hi my name is Connor Lakofka. I usually go by Connor but sometimes by my last name. I don't really care which one as long as you can say it right; La-cough-ka. People like to ask where its from but I really have no idea and neither does my family. Its kind of a mystery. So usually I just say a European Country I feel like being from. I tend to be a quiet person and not one to always be the center of attention.

So far my life has pretty much been composed of school and soccer. In school my strengths tend to be math and science with english being definitely the worst and Im hoping to pursue a career in an engineering field. Even though this shouldn't be the case but school will sometimes take a backseat to soccer. I've played since I was very young, and it is what I love to do. I've played on the Lexington FC team for 8 years now and also was a member of the Lexington Jaguars 3v3 from age 5 till 8th grade or so. You can probably tell that we came up with that name when we were 5, and it stuck. Cameron will probably mention something about this team too as we played together on this team and others. During Cameron and I's reign with the Jaguars we went to nationals every year from age 5 till 14 in Orlando and Las Vegas; which included 3 top 5 finishes and 2 2nd places. While playing for Henry Clay last year we managed to win a state championship and I still consider that to be one of my greatest accomplishments. Sorry thats a lot about soccer but it really is what my life consists of.

I also enjoy the outdoors so a trip to West Virginia that included kayaking, white water rafting and numerous fishing trips was a fun vacation that I took this summer. And as I write this I am watching Manchester United destroy Arsenal (I mean really Arsenal, 8-2? Thats embarrassing), but that reminds me that one thing I wanna do before I die is attend a Chelsea vs Manchester United game at Stamford Bridge.

As for a website I enjoy this one because its where I download music

The Sea, Rock, Son of Sarkis

"And sir, were you injured in the fracas?"
"No, it wasjust a little above there."
--a court interview

Dylan Peter Sarkisian is my name (translate that and you might understand the title), and everything and anything I've got the time for is my game. You'd do me a real favor if you could pinpoint exactly what I am, because I'm pretty incapable of introspection.
I believe everything I do is only worth what others make of it; but I'm well aware that he who shapes himself to fit everyone whittles himself down to nothing. So, I split the difference between those quasi-clashing dogmas and to make an opinionated, but open-minded; devoted, but curious kind of guy.

My favorite quote bashes judgmental thinking--what I believe to be the greatest hindrance to transcending the violence and hate of modern society. It comes from the first sentence of The Great Gatsby -- "Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," [my father] told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you've had."
I see it as no less than my responsibility to use the blessings I have to improve the world around me--thus explaining my "Green" freak mentality for which people have come to know me.
What most people don't know about me is that in addition to being an environmentalist, I hope to help eliminate other scourges of human society. I am not a "there will always be more problems" thinker. Call it naive; I call it courageous. Where the hot debates start is my definition of a "scourge."

My family ran into a lot of trouble moving my grandmother up from Florida this summer, so unfortunately we as a whole didn't get to go on a vacation. But with that bad fortune came some equally good--I was presented a priceless opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for the National Energy Education Development Youth Awards Summit. With a name like that, you can't go wrong in my book. And to close off the summer I ventured to King's Island with about 20 friends, and had what you young folks would call "a blast."

I love the sciences, language and everything to do with it, history, government... and music... and I like exercising too... And therein lies the problem-- I don't dislike much of anything. Everything has worth to me; one of the most disappointing realizations of my life was how many things I won't be able to do. So please don't ask me what I want to major in... it is SO DISAPPOINTING I can't say "everything." That said, I think it will be biology, probably biochemistry, because the Earth catches my interest more than anything else. You can see that from my utterly awesome picture featured above.

My favorite website is one that is equally important and always surprising, Science News magazine: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/home

So, to close, remember I'm a bit of a flibberty jibbit, and when I'm not busy I specialize in tomfoolery, even brouhaha instigation. You'll find out sooner or later I love specialized words, like sanctimonious and floccinaucinihilipilification. I also make up words whenever I DAL-GURNED feel like it, thank you very much. You can talk to me about anything and I can probably come up with some opinion on it--just remember that 63% of statistics are made up on the spot.
