The Bucket List

We all have things we want to do before we die. Not just the little, day to day things or even the yearly things. Big things, things that you feel would be impressive. These can be anywhere from "see a famous landmark" to "go skydiving". Yeah, these are things we can't usually do, but want to, someday. I too, have things I'd like to do. Things I want to accomplish before the end of high school, before the end of college and before I die.

High School: I'd like to subtitle a show to completion. The shows that I watch, I get to watch thanks to the hard work of people who translate and subtitle them for people, like me, who aren't fluent in the language. I'd really like to participate. I've already become a timer for one sub group (I mark where each line of dialogue is, so the translator and typesetter can input the text for each line). I'd like to be able to keep doing this, or more, and get an entire show subbed for everyone to see.

College: I'd like to become fluent in two more languages, Japanese and Computer. The first one is to further my high-school dream, whereas the second is something i've felt lacking in for a very long time. I do not know how to computer on the same level that my peers do. I'd really like to be able to "utilize Wine to make shells for operating Windows programs/games in a Mac environment", or even understand what that means.

Life: I'd like to live at least 24 hours of my life in space. This one really depends on how far Humanity gets while i'm alive, but I'd love to spend an entire day outside of the atmosphere. If Space Colonization becomes a thing, i'd be one of the first to sign up for it. Or, well, first to really really want to.

It's either that or pilot a giant robot. Both depends on human kind getting it together.

Before I kick the bucket...

You know how experts say that making goals gets more accomplished? And how it may in the end make your life more enjoyable? Well, turns out that's true! So, I made a bucket list for three different categories: before I graduate high school, before I graduate college, and before I die.
Before I graduate high school, I want to:
  • Participate in Senior Benefit
  • Make it through the whole school building blindfolded
  • Go through a week of school where I get at least 10 hrs. of sleep a night
Before I graduate college, I want to:
  • Learn Spanish. I've never taken a day of Spanish in my life, and it sounds fascinating.
Before I die, I want to:
  • Learn how to play the piano. I've always wanted to learn how to play, but I never have gotten lessons.
  • Climb a mountain. Not some puny little one, the real deal. Even if that means traveling to another continent (although Everest is not on the list).

Better Late than Never (Bucket List)

My bucket list is mostly unserious and unfocussed, save for the basics like "get a masters of PhD from UK". The body of my list is usually no more mature or well thought out than "own a T-shirt launcher" or "beat an Asian at ping-pong" (which hasn't gone well in any of the instances I've attempted it).

Before high school: Make solid A's and B's.
This might be unaspiring and even standard by some academy students' expectations, but there's always been one class I can't pull an 83 or higher in, and it'd be nice to change that.

College: Become fluent in spanish.
I love the idea of knowing multiple languages, and while I'm debating AP spanish next year, I know for sure that I'll take it while I'm in college. French and Italian are also languages that I'd like to know, especially since the language and vocabulary have similar roots to spanish and english. This would make it easier to learn those languages after becoming fluent. It would also open up the opportunities to living in Europe.

Life: Own a sports car. A really nice sports car.
I'll be honest, I can't justify this in any way other than "I really freaking want a sports car". I wouldn't go drag racing in it or anything, but I truly feel that no matter how old I get, I'll always accelerate like a 17 year old if I'm in a cool enough car. Why? Because accelerating in a sports car is fun, and totally worth the poor mileage. I might not get this dream car fresh out of college, but believe me, it will come.
