I'm Not Saying It Was Aliens...

Somewhere in the universe right now, a thought forms. On Earth or somewhere else? In the head of a human or in some alien's? Concerned with what? Communicated through what means? Alive for how long?

No one can or should answer, until they do. I may have just spent a week learning about the universe in physics class (sorry, Clark kids), but no physicist could begin to explain what compelled humans to think about physics in the first place. By that I mean that scientists almost always consider the how questions without even considering why they're asking the questions in the first place. Or, even, what a question is. What an idea is. What a thought is.

I remember hearing one of the critically acclaimed scientists in one of the cosmology videos we watched claim that if just 1 in 10000 planets has conditions similar to Earth, billions Earth-like planets--billions of potential harbors for life--could exist. So, maybe some creature somewhere possesses the ability to process thought like we humans do. Maybe some other world actually houses creatures that imagine and believe and conceive as we do.

But... take one look at how coincidental human existence is--what with the billions of interdependent stimuli that influenced our evolution--and it would be easy to believe that we are very, very alone. What are the chances, for example, that bacteria on another planet (assuming they exist) actually team up symbiotically in order to create eukaryotic cells (the building block of big organisms).
Maybe aliens are shaking their heads as they gaze down at our bickering and fooling around as animals with emotions and thoughts. Maybe what lies in our future is a transcending of these mortal, painful bodies.

But who knows what to think?

Somewhere a teenager writes a blog

Somewhere in the universe, a teenager sits at home writing a blog for his English class. He thinks, "Why am I doing this?" and writes it. Why am I doing this? He then looks around and thinks of all the wonderful things he could be doing with his time, all the things that could entertain his mind. He reflects on all his past blog experiences and wonders why he even bothered. He wonders when the last blog will end, so that he does not have to remember when they are due. That is why he sits at home on A Wednesday ninth, doing his homework for Sunday night. He then reflects on how productive he his being right now. He never does his homework four days in advance. Then again he will be out of town Sunday, so the the circumstances are somewhat odd. He moves the mouse on his computer to the itunes button and clicks it, hoping for some relief from the dull drudgery of writing blogs. He finds a smooth tunes and plays it. Relief rushes over his body, the tension in his shoulders eases. His mind is at ease. He reflects on the mindless gibberish he has just finished for his blog. "A job well done." he thinks to himself.

It's expanding!

Somewhere in the universe right now, galaxies are getting farther and farther away from each other. It started out the size of an atom and is now unimaginably gigantic. There are probably other life forms similar to us in the universe right now that we cannot access because they are hundreds of light years away and we cannot access those currently. They may know about us, but cannot reach or do not wish to reach us in fear that we will hurt them or maybe we serve no purpose to them. Or possibly, we are the sole life forms out there and there is no life anywhere else in the entire universe. The odds for that are tiny though! The size of the universe provides amazing odds for there to be other living creatures roaming the universe right now. Right now, the planets in our galaxy are moving and orbiting the sun. They are twisting and orbiting the sun at the same time. For some people on Earth, it is day time and for some people it is morning and for some, like me, it is night. We do not even know what is occurring on other planets in our own galaxy such as Mars because of how far away it is. And to have a size reference, there are millions of existing galaxies (estimation). The universe is huge!!!!
